Sales targets

A sales target is the amount a person should invoice in a month. Set it on Team management; each person then sees their progress on their dashboard, and their manager sees the whole team’s.

  • Your role needs Set sales targets. At My team you set the targets of the people who report to you and the members of the teams you lead, but never your own. At Whole company you set anyone’s. The standard Administrator role has Whole company; any other role has it only when an administrator turns it on — see Roles and permissions.
  • Without it you can still open Sales targets and read your team’s targets.
  • A target is in your company’s base currency, before tax.
  1. Select Team management in the sidebar, then the Sales targets tab.
  2. Choose the Month.
  3. Choose the Team: My team, one of your teams, or Whole company.
  4. In the target column, such as Target (SGD), type each person’s amount, such as 25000. Leave a box empty for no target.
  5. Select Save targets. A message says how many targets were saved. Cancel drops your unsaved changes.

Each person’s My target this month card on the Dashboard and the Target and Achieved columns on the overview use the new amounts straight away. Progress is the person’s issued invoices of the month with them as Salesperson, less their credit notes, before tax. The save is recorded in the audit log with each old and new amount.

  • An amount is 0 or more with at most 2 decimal places; otherwise the page says Enter an amount of 0 or more, with at most 2 decimal places. and Save targets stays off.
  • Clearing a box removes that person’s target: they read Not set and their dashboard reads No target.
  • Each month has its own targets. A new month starts empty until someone sets it.
  • A save is all or nothing. If one entry cannot be saved, none is, and the page says why.
  • If someone saved the same month at the same time, your save is refused; reload and enter it again.
  • A target saved before your company changed its base currency is not compared. Note shows Saved earlier as the old amount; enter it again in the current currency.

A manager cannot set their own target. At My team a target is set from above: your manager, or someone with Whole company, sets yours. That keeps targets honest and agreed.

Targets count invoiced sales, not quotes. An invoice is a sale the customer has been billed for. Measuring targets on invoices less credit notes means a sale cancelled with a credit note comes off the person’s progress too.

Before tax, in one currency. GST is collected for the tax authority, so it is not sales. Keeping every target in the base currency lets the team’s total add up.

  • Set the whole team at once. Type every amount, then save once — see Team management.
  • Copy last month’s amounts. Choose last month under Month to read them, then switch to the new month and type them in.
  • Give a target-setter the right level. A team leader needs My team; a sales director or administrator Whole company — see Roles and permissions.
  • Watch progress daily. Each person’s My target this month card shows where they stand on the Dashboard.

Setting November’s targets. On 28 October Daniel Lim, who leads Lim & Co’s sales team, opens Sales targets, chooses November and My team. He types 25000 for Mei Tan, 20000 for Kelvin and 8000 for Priya, who has just joined, and selects Save targets. The message reads 3 targets saved. His own row is read-only: his target is set by the managing director.

Measuring progress. In November Mei issues invoices of SGD 27,250.00 before GST and a credit note of SGD 1,250.00. Her progress is SGD 26,000.00, so Achieved reads 104% and her dashboard card shows SGD 26,000.00 of SGD 25,000.00.

  • Can I set a target for myself? Only with Whole company. At My team your own row is read-only.
  • Does a quotation count towards a target? No. Only issued invoices count, less credit notes.
  • Is the target before or after GST? Before tax, in your company’s base currency.
  • What happens to a target when someone leaves? A deactivated user no longer appears on the page. The targets already saved for them are kept, and the audit log records every change.
  • Why can’t I type a target? Your role does not have Set sales targets, or the row is your own at My team.
  • Do targets carry over to the next month? No. Each month starts empty.
